Desperate Housecats
As the seasons grow warmer, CVHS experiences a massive influx of cats and kittens. Every year "kitten season" seems to be extending. This often leaves us in what we refer to as a "cat crises". Our cute and cuddly kittens rarely stay at the shelter long. While this is wonderful, our young adults, adults and seniors are often overlooked throughout the season. Week after week, these cats watch potential adopters come and go, hoping this time they will be the one going home. Remember, these cats were once kittens too! Our cats, some gregarious, some shy, some playful have been living at the shelter too long and have been overlooked too many times. These special cats, waiting for their second chance, will be honored with a reduced adoption fee to help them on their way to finding their new home.
Just look for the symbol of love (a heart) on our cages to denote which of our feline friends is a
member of the "Desperate Housecats" club.

Initially very nervous here, I spent some time with the office staff and have really come out of my shell and let my true "kitten" colors show. I am great with other animals and foolish at times when we play. All I need is the time to adjust to my new home and we can be great friends!

Hey there, we're Drake and Destiny. We're brother and sister and would love to find a home where we could stay together. We were found roaming around as strays when we were just 3 months old, and since then, we've been living our kitten days out here at the shelter. We're hoping for a quiet home, or atleast a home that is willing to give us some time to come around, you see, we're pretty shy at first, but when we do open up, we are very loving felines. Hello, I'm Dr.Pepper. I was brought in to the shelter when I was just a month old, I was a stray little kitten found with no mother to care for me. I was then placed in to a loving foster home until I was old enough to come back to Cocheco in hopes of finding a lovely forever home. Unfourtunatly, for no good reason, I have yet to find that. I've been living here for about 6 months now, and have yet to really experience what it's like to be a kitten in a home enviornement. I'm just looking for a nice quiet home that can allow me some time to get adjusted and adapted to my new home. I'd love it if you would give me a try, I promise I'm very sweet and affectionate when I'm comfortable, I'd be forever thankful!

I came here to the shelter because I was a stray kitty, roaming around aimlessly for a few weeks, but luckily I was picked up and brought to the shelter in hopes to find a loving forever home. I'm a very loving cat, I'm just looking for a nice home to be able to relax and call my own. I'm not very fussy, so I could fit in just about anywhere that has room for me. I am a bit on the shy side but, have been working very hard at getting more comfortable with everyone here. I would be much better in a home with another cat in the residence to teach me the ins and outs of everything. Small children may be too much for me as I need the time to get used to my surroundings and loud noises startle me. Do you have a place for me?

Hello, I'm Misfit. I was brought to the shelter because my previous owners didn't have time for me. Though I don't understand why, I'm pretty easy going and I'd make a great addition to your family. I am fine with cats, children and most likely a cat savy dog. Hey there, I'm Peanut. I was brought here to the shelter as a stray found roaming around Dover. I'm a little stand offish at first, because this whole situation is a little confusing to me. But once I settle and calm down and become relaxed, I enjoy attention. I love my neck scratched and under my chin scratched as well. I don't mind other cats at all, I've never lived with dogs before, but I'd be willing to give it a shot. If you have a quiet household, and time to devote to letting me settle, we could be a great match :)
