Brother/Sister - Can You Spare Some Time?

Do you have one or two hours a month that you can donate to CVHS to help with some of our programs? Two hours out of three hundred isn't very many, but it makes a big difference to what we can accomplish. Here are some ways in which you can make a difference:

Bingo
Karen Wenmark, Bingo Manager

Cocheco Valley Humane Society is one of the non-profit organizations that sponsor Bingo at the Dover Bingo Center. The income generated from the Bingo game greatly aids the shelter and the animals it helps. However, without the help of volunteers there is no Bingo game, thus no additional income. Your help would greatly be appreciated.

A lot of time and energy goes into sponsoring one game of Bingo. We need a minimum of 15 volunteers per night (State law), and the more the merrier. We have many positions that need to be filled in order for the game to run smoothly and profitably. Volunteers sign up to be on a team (C, V, H or S). One team works each night, roughly once a month--however you may do more than that if you wish. Volunteers work anywhere from 2-5 hours--it is not necessary for you to spend your whole night, just a couple of hours can be a big help.

The game itself starts at 7pm and runs until 10pm. We start needing volunteers at 4:45pm. Knowledge of Bingo is not necessary to volunteer. Below is a list of the shifts we need to cover--however, any amount of time you are able to donate is very much appreciated, and we can be flexible with the hours.

5 - 7:15pm Line Workers Selling the game sheet to the patrons.
5 - 8:30pm Bonanza Seller A specific game that is sold through intermission.
5 - 9pm Ticket Sellers Walking throughout the hall selling "tear open tickets", similar to scratch tickets. The ticket sales are a major source of our bingo income.
7 - 10pm Payers When a player yells "Bingo", the payer goes to that player and reads a number from the game sheet to the caller, who verifies the Bingo. The payer then pays the winner their money.
7 - 10pm Caller The person who "calls" the Bingo numbers for the game and verifies the Bingo winners.
5 - 10pm Office Help We have two office positions. One person takes care of all the ticket paperwork and money and one takes care of all the Bingo game paperwork and money.

We need volunteers for all positions but we are currently in great need of ticket sellers and payers. It is truly a fun way to help the animals.

If you are interested in volunteering for Bingo or would like more information, please call our Bingo Manager--Karen Wenmark at 749-3228 or our Volunteer Coordinator--Beverly Petree at 749-5322.
