Join "Dover Reads!"Posted Monday, February 10, 2003 by cvhsAre you looking for a cool way to beat the winter blues? The Dover Schools Community Involvement Committee has just the answer for a 'cabin fever reliever'! "Dover Reads: Pages For All Ages" is a citywide project involving all citizens to read the same book.
'Because of Winn-Dixie' by Kate DiCamillo is a Newbery and Parent's Choice award winner. It is a wonderful, warm and unique story of friendship, loneliness, acceptance and honesty. The book is available free of charge at the public library, school libraries, Dover School Department office at City Hall or by calling 516-6726. You are asked to read the story, sign the front cover and pass the book to a friend, neighbor, grocer, hairdresser, gas station attendant or anyone else you wish. The goal is for 5000 Dover residents to enjoy the book during the six week campaign.
Following the kick-off there will be 'Winn-Dixie' discussion groups at the library, Stroudwater Books, HUB Family Resource Center and the other places to be arranged. An essay contest is also planned for all Dover residents.
On Thursday, March 27 from 6-8 PM the community is invited to a potluck celebration at Dover Middle School. The essay winners will be announced by the judges from the Riverside Rest Home.
Please plan to join us for this exciting event. Your presence will give the message to Dover's citizens, especially its young people, that reading is a fun way to build community across the generations.
