What To Do If You’d Like To Volunteer

Caring for more than 1,500 animals every year is a huge job, and our staff simply cannot due it all by ourselves. From direct animal care in the shelter to fundraisers and special events, there is a volunteer opportunity available for everyone. Every little thing you do in the life of one of our animals makes a big difference in his/ her quality of life. Together, we can make an animal’s stay a comfortable and positive experience. And, in return, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you are improving the quality of life for many homeless, abused, or neglected animals.

If you love animals and are looking for a way to help the homeless pets in your area, please consider donating some of your time to Cocheco Valley Humane Society!

How You Can Get Started

In order to get started, you must complete and submit a volunteer application. You will need to read the information below in order to complete your application. Please read the application carefully and sign in all places. Applications that are not filled out correctly will be returned. Please note that volunteer orientations take place every  month, so there may be a wait time between applying for the program and attending an orientation session. You must have a valid email address to apply to the volunteer program.

Click here to download a copy of the volunteer application.

Completed applications should be emailed to the Volunteer Coordinator at  volunteerc@cvhsonline.org. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement in the volunteer program. Approved applicants will receive an email with upcoming orientation dates and times. Orientation is mandatory for all new volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering directly with animals in the shelter, you must complete a direct animal care training before you can start volunteering. Many times the training is directly after the volunteer orientation.

We ask our volunteers to make a 6-month commitment to volunteer at CVHS with the animals. If 6 months is too long for you or you are not ready to make that commitment there are other volunteer opportunities for fundraising and special events. Please talk to the Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

If no opportunities are available that match your interests or availability, your application will be kept on file for three months. After that time, you must reapply to be considered for the volunteer program.

To request a copy of the application by email, call the Volunteer Coordinator at (603) 749-5322 ex. 113 or email volunteerc@cvhsonline.org. Applications can be mailed to CVHS at 262 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820 or faxed to 603-749-3484
